A GTA fan from Miami has visited the real life locations found in the GTA 6 trailer. Joel Franco from Miami aka Vice City has shared footage comparing the game to real life and as you’d expect they are pretty comparable.
The details and lengths Rockstar Games have gone to recreate Miami is easily visible thanks to Joel’s video. He even made sure the time of day was accurate to provide the best possible side by side comparison.
Mr Franco started posting comparison photos he took that replicate shots seen in the trailer. He posted these as Tweets and they quickly went viral due to how close he was able to line up the shots for comparison.
Joel has since released a video documenting how he did this and revealed even more comparisons. Franco said he spent four exhausting days filming the video. This involved travelling around the city and even going on boat tours. His fantastic work has not gone unnoticed by the GTA community. The video amassed nearly 300,000 views within 24 hours and has received a lot of love from other fans on social media.
Ocean Drive
Firstly, let’s take a look at the iconic Ocean Drive. As you can see, the game has done a good job at capturing how it looks. The hotels are very similar in design and lighting. The names are all different but are similar to real life as usual for Rockstar’s titles. One major difference though is that the road is now a one-way street. The game depicts it from a few years ago when it was two-way traffic.
MacArthur Causeway
Franco was able to locate the exact highway signs seen in the shot below from the GTA VI trailer. A big difference is that the stadium on the left in the screenshot in GTA 6 is not there in real life. In Miami, it is further left and the Pérez Art Museum Miami is there instead.
Venetian Causeway and South Beach
These comparison is very closely matched. The toll booth, tennis court, buildings, bike lanes and more are faithfully recreated in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Art District
Franco explains it is quite hard to compare this area of Miami. It has seen a lot of dramatic change in the last decade. This means since Rockstar scouted the area and took references, it could have changed quit a bit.
Florida Keys, Bahia Honda Bridge
The old bridge that has been left broken can be seen in the trailer. There are missing sections which players will likely try and stunt jump over in GTA VI.
Rooftop pool
It appears this building’s roof is the location of the shot of a woman which many fans have been debating over. A lot of people think this is Lucia, the main protagonist of the game. Meanwhile others do not think it is.
Port of Miami
Franco went on a speed boat and was able to capture a large cargo ship in the port as he sailed by. This is very similar to a small scene in the GTA VI trailer.
